The anti-noisy team of Kolkata Police has cracked down on an illegal call center that defrauded people under the guise of Amazon customer representatives.

By Suryagni Roy: The anti-noisy team of the Kolkata Police has cracked down on an illegal call center, which defrauded people under the guise of Amazon customer representatives, operating out of an upscale residential area in Kolkata.
Based on a tip, the team raided the call center and arrested two people identified as Rajdeep Ganguly (20) and
Amit Singh (27).
In the call center, a total of 20 CPUs, 20 monitors and some registers were seized.

According to police, the duo’s modus operandi would be to call people in the US and Canada over a voice-over internet protocol.

The duo obtained a database of customers from the renowned e-commerce site Amazon and asked them if they had bought an Apple iPhone. If the customers refused, the duo would entice them with the prospect of crediting the cancellation amount to their bank accounts. In this way, the fraudsters would obtain their victims’ banking information and transfer funds from their bank accounts.

The duo has been charged under Sections 120B (penalty for criminal conspiracy), 419 (punishment for deception by personification), 420 (fraud), 465 (penalty for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will ), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (as genuine a forged document) of the IPC along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
