3 ways to protect your clinical career from an unstable economy

by dr. Christine Manukyan, founder and CEO of STORRIE Institute.

No matter how many times we fall into a recession, there will always be fear of the unknown around it. However, it is not necessary that you, as a clinician, be trapped in the back of this turbulent economy.

Here are three ways you can add income to your active income so that you are protected and prepared for any economic changes.

Identify an outside skill you have and start paying for it.

What better time to take advantage of an afterthought than now? Even if you’ve been in a specific clinical field for decades, there’s bound to be a skill that can help you make money in your spare time.

For example, if you enjoy reading and writing, become a freelance medical writer.

If you have a creative eye and love design, consider becoming a freelance graphic designer to support other entrepreneurs in the medical space.

Your clinical background is the asset that will establish your trust and credibility with prospective clients – and your outside skills can be the factor securing the deal.

Freelance networking websites like Upwork are a great place to start when finding new projects to take on. You can also use your personal network and pitch your skills to other clinicians who need your services.

Turn your passion for health and wellness into a group challenge and start paying for your knowledge.

In times of economic uncertainty it is important that colleagues and colleagues stay together. So why not capitalize on it?

For example, let’s say you are passionate about boosting immunity and preparing your body for flu season. You can create a two-week challenge where you provide tips and resources on how to strengthen your immune system. Your teachings may include immunity-boosting supplements and biology hacks that will properly prepare your clients’ bodies for any seasonal illnesses that may come their way.

You can open up this challenge to other clinicians and your patients and even a wider audience by turning it into a virtual classroom.

Creating a Facebook group and email listserv are great ways to make your customers feel like they are constantly being taught and nurtured by your teachings.

Generate additional income by becoming an affiliate marketer for products you already use and love.

As a physician, you have certain health and wellness products that you recommend to your patients just because they are high quality and effective. Why not take advantage of your recommendations?

You can contact the brand of the product and ask to become an affiliate marketer for them. This is a great way to generate passive income without putting in extra effort.

If you want to take it a step further, take your affiliate marketing to social media. Other medical brands will acknowledge your influence and ask to do business with you for their affiliated products.

The bottom line is that you don’t have to let the economic recession affect your clinical profession or your income.

There are many ways to generate additional income to protect yourself from economic turmoil. Use this opportunity to stay ahead of the market and establish your leadership in your industry!
