By Jitendra Bahadur Singh: An interior ministry source said five leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab were provided with ‘Ycategory’ security after an intelligence agency (IB) report identified a threat. Security was tightened after the IB informed the ministry.
The ministry has granted security to all five BJP leaders in view of the threat to their security highlighted in the agency’s report. According to the source, these leaders had recently joined the BJP along with the former chief minister of Punjab and former congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh.
The security category was given to Amrik Singh Aliwal, Harjinder Singh Contractor, Harchand Kaur, Prem Mittal,
Kamaldeep Saini.
After assessing the hazards, the security category is divided into five groups and assigned to a person. X, Y, Z, Z+, SPG, among other classifications.
‘Y’is the fourth level of security in the country and the guard consists of an 11-person crew, including 1-2 NSG commandos and police personnel.
