Weta Workshop, who worked on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy, develops a new video game set in the Middle-earth universe from the books by JRR Tolkien. There aren’t many details about this new game yet – although it sounds like Weta could have a large source of material to choose from. “Middle-earth Enterprises have licensed the literary works of the series, giving Wētā Workshop the broadest creative license to interpret the underlying lore of the books,” according to a press release.
Weta’s game division is teaming up with Take-Two publishing house Private Division for the upcoming title. There is no announced release date, although the game is expected to launch in Take-Two’s fiscal year 2024, which runs from April 2023 to March 2024.
This new game joins a few others Lord of the Rings adjustments underway. that of Amazon The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series are just around the corner, although the new ones LOTR video game starring Gollum will no longer launch alongside the show after a recent delay. And EA is developing a free to play LOTR mobile game, The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth, who has it started testing.
