A new mafia game is coming. Series publisher 2K Games and Hanger 13, the studio that worked on and announced the news in a celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
“I am happy to confirm that we have embarked on a brand new mafia project,” said Roman Hladík, general manager of Hanger 13. “Although it will be a few more years and we can’t share anything now, we are very excited to continue working on this much-loved franchise and entertain our players with new stories.”
The studio has not shared any other details about the project. The most recent release was that of 2020 Mafia: Definitive Edition, a remake of the franchise’s original 2002 entry. According to an Published earlier this year, Hanger 13 has gone through multiple layoffs since the studio completed work on it Mafia III in 2016. The most recent occurred in May after 2K reportedly canceled a game Hanger 13 had been working on for a while that the publisher had funded to the tune of $50 million. That same month, Kotaku published a separate report showing that the studio was also working on a and built on top of Unreal Engine 5. It’s unclear if that project is the 2K and Hanger 13 game announced today.
