I am tall shall hit Disney Plus on August 10. The animated series of short films revolves around none other than Baby Groot himself, with Vin Diesel reprising his role as the voice of the adorable anthropomorphic sapling.
Marvel Studios teased the upcoming series in a tweet, showing off an official poster of Baby Groot chilling atop one of the headphones attached to Peter Quill’s iconic Walkman (played by Chris Pratt). He rests next to a palm tree air freshener—showing just how small he really is—with two four-eyed penguin-like creatures (who are somehow even smaller than Baby Groot) peeking out from behind. We don’t have these two mischievous looking creatures in either The Guardians of the Universe movies, but it looks like they’re going to have some sort of role in the new series.
Beyond the poster, Marvel and Disney haven’t revealed much more about the show, though Marvel describes it vaguely as “growing up after Baby Groot’s glory days and getting into trouble among the stars.” We don’t know if other Guardians will appear in the show in animated form, or if it will just focus on Groot (and his very limited vocabulary).
Disney already has several short series — most aimed at kids — on its streaming service that follow the beloved side characters who may not have been in the spotlight in the movies they appeared in, such as Excavated Days†Olaf presentsand Ice Age Scrat Tales†I’m not denying that Disney completely milks the amiability of these characters, but I’m not really complaining either.
I am tall going just for debut She-Hulk: Lawyer, which will be released on Disney Plus on August 17. It’s the first original Guardians of the Universe spin-off to date, but won’t be Disney’s last – the live-action Holiday special Guardians of the Galaxy will stream exclusively on Disney Plus in December.
