Apple reportedly wants to delay hiring in 2023

Apple plans to delay hiring in 2023, according to Bloombergmaking it the latest major tech company to shift its workforce plans.

The changes will not affect every team, Bloomberg reports, but some groups will not see additional staff next year and some positions will not be replenished. Apple is also still preparing to launch its long-rumored mixed reality headset in 2023. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Many tech companies have adjusted recruitment in recent weeks. Google CEO Sundar Pichai informed staff about a delay in hiring. Meta’s chief product officer warned employees of “serious times” and has issued a staff freeze on certain positions. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi promised to be “hardcore about costs” in a memo. And Bloomberg reported in april that Apple delayed hiring Genius at some of its stores.

Many companies have also been affected by layoffs. Just today, Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud announced that the company would lay off 6 percent of its staff, even though it had already delayed hiring. Tesla, Substack, Netflix and Twitter have recently had to make layoffs.
