Assam CM springs into action after truck driver hits a rhinoceros in Assam’s Kaziranga | Video

A truck driver was fined for hitting a rhinoceros on a highway in Kaziranga. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the video on Twitter and said his government will not allow encroachment on rhino space.

By India Today Web Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video on Sunday of a truck hitting a rhinoceros on a highway in the Kaziranga National Park area. The truck driver was intercepted and fined and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the message: No intrusion allowed in rhino space.

The death of wildlife in traffic accidents due to infrastructure expansion and development projects is a recurring concern. The Assam CM, emphasizing that swift action had been taken against the perpetrator, emphasized that his government will not allow any breach of the pace of rhinoceroses.

CCTV footage shared by Himanta Biswa Sarma shows a truck hitting a rhinoceros after it suddenly hit the highway. The incident took place at Rijksweg 37.

The video shows the rhinoceros trying to get up, but stumbles and falls down. Later, the rhino managed to get up and stumble back into the forest.

The speed limit on the Haldibari corridor, where the incident took place, is 40 km/h, but the truck was traveling at a speed of 52 km/h, a ranger told PTI.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said: Rhinos are our special friends; do not allow any encroachment on their space. In this unfortunate incident in Haldibari, the rhinoceros survived; vehicle intercepted and fined.

Meanwhile, in our determination to save animals in Kaziranga, we were working on a dedicated 32 km elevated corridor, the chief minister of Assam added.
