When the release date of Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 12 comes, many anime fans will expect the end to be near. After all, we’re building up to the big season finale with the expectation that Eren Yeager will finally bring The Rumbling to the world and that this final season of the Shingeki no Kyojin anime series would end in an epic conclusion.

Instead, the title of this season’s finale, Attack On Titan Episode 87, is… The Dawn of Humanity? Where’s our rumble, damn it!? This is the last season, right!?

Well no. It has long been rumored that the story would actually be completed by an Attack On Titan: The Rumbling movie or an Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 3 anime TV series. Based on the titles announced for the upcoming episodes, it’s impossible for this course to finish the whole story.

What is a ‘cour’, you may ask? For those unfamiliar with the lingo, a “cour” is a three-month TV broadcast block based on the physical seasons that usually consist of 10 to 13 episodes.

A “split-cour” is where a single anime season takes a break of several months before resuming TV broadcasts.

The 800-ton titan in the room is the limited number of episodes being made for this course, Attack On Titan The Final Season Part 2. Some anime fans hoped that part 2 would have a similar number of episodes as part 1 and the story ends with about 16 episodes.

Unless the anime production committee pulls a World Trigger and unexpectedly announces a few more episodes at the last minute, it looks like the plan is to wrap up part 2 with just 12 episodes, leaving audiences on a cliffhanger with Eren and his wall titan. which Marley marches in.

It is possible that the plan is to conclude the story with an Attack On Titan movie. Otherwise, anime fans will have to wait until the release date of Attack On Titan Episode 88 to get serious about The Rumbling.

Attack On Titan Episode 87 Release Date Delayed

To pile on disappointment, the release date of Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 12 has been delayed a bit. Fortunately, it’s not due to production issues at Studio MAPPA or anything bad that could affect animation quality.

Instead, TV channel NHK announced that the release date of Attack On Titan Episode 87 was being postponed due to special programming that conflicted with the TV schedule on March 27, 2022.

That means that the release date of Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 12 has been postponed to April 3, 2022, the start of the Spring 2022 anime season.

Is Attack On Titan The Final Season Part 3 More Likely Than A Movie?

It’s time to get out of that crystal ball and analyze what we do know. An Attack On Titan: The Rumbling movie may be preferred by some anime fans, but most anime fans would probably prefer to see the final storyline adapted by an anime TV series.

But it’s also easy to see why the anime production committee would want a film adaptation, given that they hope to match the astonishing financial success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Jujutsu Kaizen 0. They can even beat both at the box office since anime fans would be foaming at the mouth to see the ending now that they’re stuck.

The problem is the anime series’ adaptation pace, which lately averages far less than two manga chapters per episode. As we all know, the manga ended the whole story in chapter 139.

Part 2 (Attack On Titan, Episode 76) picked up the story again in Volume 29: Chapter 117 – Judgment. Since the finale of Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 12 Chapter 130: The Dawn of Humanity means that the second course has 14 chapters adapted.

That leaves only nine chapters to finish the story. It’s very likely that the pace of adaptation will pick up at certain points, but it would be a perfect fit for a short, single-court TV final. No doubt the ending could also be adapted by a two-hour runtime movie… or a two-part movie.

Let’s hope the latest anime adaptation does justice to the ending of the Attack On Titan manga. Stay tuned!
