By Press Trust of India: A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder after a British Sikh taxi driver was killed following an attack in Wolverhampton, central England.
Anakh Singh, 59, was found with serious injuries in the city’s Nine Elms Lane while on duty as a driver for a private taxi company and died of his injuries.
West Midlands Police said Tomasz Margol has been charged with murder and appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court earlier this month. A post-mortem was performed, but the results were inconclusive.
“We have kept Singh’s family informed of this development as officers continue to support them at this tragic time,” said Detective Michelle Thurgood of the West Midlands Police homicide team.
“We continue to appeal to anyone with information who has not yet contacted us to contact us,” she said.
An online fundraiser was launched for Singh’s family with a goal of £2,000 to help them after the tragic murder. The Just Giving fundraiser has since surpassed that goal by raising over £11,000.
“Anakh Singh, a private driver, was working in his taxi when he was killed,” the fundraising page reads.
“This is a terrible time for his family, our thoughts are with his family. The donations will go directly to Anakh’s family to help them through this difficult time. We have achieved the original goal, let’s continue,” he added.
