By Press Trust of India: Edtech major BYJU’s has brought in soccer star Lionel “Leo” Messi as the first global brand ambassador of its low-impact Education For All, the company said Friday.

Messi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain and captains Argentina’s soccer team, has signed an agreement with BYJU’S to advance the cause of equitable education, BYJU’S said in a statement.

“We are honored and delighted to partner with Lionel Messi as our global ambassador. He grew from the grassroots to become one of the most successful athletes ever. That is the kind of opportunity BYJU’S Education For All (EFA) aims to create for the nearly 5.5 million children it currently empowers. No one more represents the power to increase human potential than Lionel Messi,” said Divya Gokulnath, co-founder of BYJU.t

BYJU’s involvement with Messi will increase the visibility of the edtech company abroad as football has approximately 3.5 billion fans worldwide and Lionel Messi has a social media following of nearly 450 million.

“It’s not really surprising that the greatest player of all time is also the greatest student of all time. I’m sure this partnership will inspire millions of people around the world to dream bigger and learn better,” said Gokulnath.

Earlier this year, BYJU’S became the official sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“The long-standing involvement, which begins as Lionel Messi embarks on his final campaign to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup as captain of the Argentina national football team, will see him appear in campaigns promoting BYJU’S Education For All,” the statement said.

“High-quality education changes lives, and BYJU’S has changed the career paths of millions of students around the world. I hope to inspire young students to reach and stay at the top,” said Messi.
