Early Life

Jeff was born in the year 1965 in Homestead, Florida. Jeff studied at North Miami Senior High School and completed his graduation from Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in American history in 1986.

During his school days, he served as president of the school newspaper, “The Harvard Crimson” for one year.


He started his career with NBC as a researcher for NBC Sports’ coverage in 1986. He traveled to various locations across the world from 1986 to 1988 compiling and writing information for Sports commentators and producers of NBC.

In 1989, Jeff joined NBC News as a field producer for American news and talk morning television show “Today” and was promoted as executive producer of Today in 1992. He created a record as the youngest executive producer in the program’s history when he was 26 years old.

The morning show was ranked at No. 1 position and held it consistently under his leadership. He was then promoted as President of NBC Entertainment in 2000. Three years later he became President of the NBC Entertainment, News & Cable Group.

In 2004, he served as the president of NBC Universal Television Group and was later elevated as CEO in 2005.

He was heading NBC, the global media and entertainment content company with revenues of $16 billion which included other news divisions and all of its cable entities like MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Bravo, Oxygen, and Syfy.

He left NBC and launched American Talk Show “Katie” with fellow NBC colleague Katie Couric.

He then left the show to be the president of CNN Worldwide where he was handling the group’s 23 branded news and information businesses like CNN International, HLN, and CNN Digital.

Jeff along with his wife Caryn Stephanie Nathanson purchased a Manhattan apartment in 2007 for $12.3 million.

He then sold the five-bedroom apartment in 2020 for $17.5 million. The monthly co-op fee on the apartment is a whopping $11,000.

The couple also co-owns a 1.5-acre estate in the Hamptons. Actually, the estate is three parcels which they bought from 2002 to 2014 and then combined into one. They purchased the estate for $7.3 million cumulatively.
