By India Today Web Desk: England batter Dawid Malan is likely to miss the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup vs India to be played in Adelaide on November 10, Moeen Ali confirmed on Monday, November 7.
Malan, the former No. 1 batter in the T20I rankings, pulled his groin in England’s last Super-12 game against Sri Lanka and had to stumble off the field. Ali said during a conversation with the BBC on Monday that things were not looking good for the left-hander.
He has been one of our best players for several years now. I don’t know, but to be honest it doesn’t look great. He went for scans yesterday and when he arrived we don’t really know much but it doesn’t look great,” Moeen Ali told BBC.
Already marred by form and performance issues, England have not dominated the tournament. The team lost to Ireland in the Super-12 stage and advanced to the semi-finals after a close win against Sri Lanka in their last game. When asked if England would be the underdog going into the semi-final against Rohit Sharma’s India, Ali said it was true that England had not played to their potential in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
“England is the underdog. India has played fantastic last year and even if you look at the tournament they played really well. I don’t think we have to be honest, we are a bit behind,” said Moeen. Ali added.
England will face India in the knockout match on November 10. Both teams have their respective struggles, but India seems to be the favorites after beating Zimbabwe by 71 runs in their final game of the Super-12 stage.
