DeLorean Alpha5 has long wanted the legendary DeLorean to return, and now it’s finally here. But the DeLorean Alpha5 isn’t just a reimagined version of the mythical car we first saw in the Back to the Future movies. Instead, it is an all-new version of the sports car that became famous for its unique design.
Called the Alpha5, this car brings back the iconic gull-wing doors that made its predecessor so special. However, it forgoes the straight lines and blocky look of its predecessor in favor of a design full of curves and softer lines.
The car’s powertrain has also been taken to a new level. It’s very different from the car that came out in the 1980s with a low-power six-cylinder engine in the back. The new DeLorean Alpha5 gets its power from electricity.
With a battery pack that can contain more than 100 kWh, the company is sure that this car can drive at least more than 480 kilometers itself. The top speed of the vehicle is 250 km/h, which is good, but not as good as other fast sports cars that can easily exceed 300 km/h.
It is clear from the images shown that the Alpha5 follows in the footsteps of large tourist cars and has a spacious cabin that looks easy to get used to. The exterior reminds us of a coupé or a large coupé, even if it is definitely bigger than its predecessor.
The DeLorean Alpha5 is 5 meters long, 2 meters wide and 1.3 meters high when the doors are closed. As we mentioned, the doors still open in the style of a ‘wing wing’, which, along with the medallion, reminds us of that unforgettable stainless steel sports car.
The body, which was made in collaboration with Italdesign, emphasizes the aerodynamics of the car. The hood of the concept car resembles the basic shape of an aircraft fuselage, which narrows from front to back. The fact that the rear fenders are wide and rounded only adds to this idea.
Inside, the DeLorean Alpha5, like most modern cars, has two large screens that appear to rise from the center console to the dashboard, showing the instrument panel and infotainment system. “The Alpha5 is a representation of DeLorean’s last 40 years,” said Troy Beetz, marketing director of DeLorean Motor Company. “It was a huge responsibility to honor the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility to shape the future…I think the Alpha5 has helped us do both.”
DeLorean plans to show off the Alpha5 for the first time in August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This, at least in terms of design, will put all questions to rest.
On the other hand, the company said nothing about how much its new product would cost.
