If you were afraid that the real foam version of the infamous Gjallarhorn rocket launcher will come out Destiny would be disappointing for kids, you can put those fears to rest: Bungie just revealed what the blaster actually looks like – and when fans can get it.

Preorders for the 1.2-foot-long, 1:1 scale blaster kicks off July 7 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, and existing Gjallarhorn owners will be getting dibs. To purchase the prop-grade Nerf LMTD blaster, you must unlock it in-game in the Lot 2 Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack before July 7 at 9:00 a.m. PT before you can log into the “virtual waiting room” for your purchase. So you have just over a week left. If any are left, Bungie will put them up for sale starting July 21.

Now for some bad news: The price has gone up $25 without explanation. It will now be $185 instead of the $160 Bungie announced last December. And there’s no word yet on even a rough estimate of when it might ship. A previous Nerf LMTD product took over a year to arrive. Others are still inside.

Also, don’t expect this Gjallarhorn to fire missiles that split into multiple darts as we’d hoped. In a bigger reveal on Bungie’s website, the designers clarified that you load a shell that houses three of Nerf’s large Mega-darts, and you’ll see those three Mega-darts exit the barrel at the same time. Granted, that makes a lot more sense than firing a missile.

“With that grenade, we fire three of those MEGA darts at once, giving the visual feel of the Wolfpack rounds whirling through the air and flying toward your target,” said Nerf senior project engineer Justin Saccone. You get a total of three of those Mega shells and nine darts.

The reload mechanism sounds really cool:

We wanted to integrate how it reloads into the game, so that the whole top case of the Blaster itself slides forward, it opens up the loading dock just like in the game, you leave the shell in, just like the animation, and then you pull it back and you are ready to shoot a burst of three MEGA darts which is super awesome. It’s the first time at NERF that we’ve ever created an easily reloadable MEGA dart shell that fires multiple MEGA darts at once.

Unfortunately, Bungie and Hasbro didn’t provide any photos or videos of that mechanism in action, so you’ll have to use your imagination for now. They also don’t say how the priming mechanism works – and no hint has been given as to its range or power.
