The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, will premiere on ZEE5 on May 13 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. It depicts the story of the exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandit. The story is about the gorge that still exists in the valleys of Kashmir after the flight of the Kashmere pandits that devastated the valley in the early 1990s. It mimics their experience of deprivation, the agony of leaving, the fear of living, and the struggle to stay alive. The Kashmir Files got a theatrical release on January 26, 2022 and is now ready for its digital release on ZEE5 on May 13.

Mithun Chakraborty as Brahma Dutto
Mithun takes on the role of Brahma Dutt, a retired ex-divisional commissioner of J&K. In the film, his character Bramha has witnessed the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits. He was close to Pushkar Nath Pandit’s family but despite his efforts, Pushkar’s family is driven out of Kashmir. So he carries with him a heavy burden of shame for the rest of his life.
Anupam Kher as Pushkar Nath Pandit
Pushkar Nath, a Kashmiri Pandit, is played by Kher. It is one of the main roles in the film. Pushkar Nath was the name of Kher’s real father. In the movie, Pushkar’s family was suffering greatly, and he longed to return to his home in Kashmir, but couldn’t! Anupam’s performance in The Kashmir Files is a tribute to his father.
Darshan Kumaar as Krishna Pandit
The actor portrayed Krishna Pandit in the film. His character Krishna represents the people who know little about the incident. According to the movie story, Darshan’s character, Krishna, seems to be torn between the right and left wing.
Pallavi Joshi as Radhika Menon
Pallavi Joshi portrays a major antagonist in the film. She portrays Professor Radhika Menon, a JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) professor who inspires her students to fight for ‘Azad Kashmir.’ Professor Nivedita Menon of JNU is the inspiration for the character, who is known for her anti-Indian statements and reciting anti-national chants at the university.
Chinmay Mandlekar as Farooq Ahmed Dar (Bitta Karate)
Chinmay Mandlekar as Farooq Ahmed, aka Bitta, plays the villainous character. His skill in martial arts is said to have earned him the name ‘karate’. As a result, he goes by the name Bitta Karate. He became synonymous with terrorism in the Valley in the 1990s. During the exodus of cashmere pandits in the 1990s, he admitted to killing many Kashmir pandits.
The film is written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. He was also part of the film production including his wife, Pallavi Joshi, Tej Narayan Agarwal and Abhishek Agarwal. The Kashmir Files will premiere on ZEE5 on May 13, 2022 and will be available to audiences around the world.
