By Divyesh Singh: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized about 1,431 kg of mephedrone (MD) worth more than Rs 60 lakh in Mumbai and arrested four people.

In a major operation, the NCB’s zonal unit in Mumbai neutralized a local drug cartel. The cartel was active in Mumbai and neighboring areas and was involved in the illegal drug trade.

Following a tip, NCB officers set a trap and detained a local distributor containing 36g of mephedron on the intervening night of October 21-22 in the Mumbra area of neighboring Thane district.

Based on the information, the NCB made the second arrest and seized 245 grams of the drug from the supplier in the western suburb of Bandra.

In the course of the investigation, NCB discovered a Wadala-based taxi driver, who was working as a carrier and procured the MD of a man in Shilphata in Thane district.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested people were part of a larger cartel spanning several states and that its members are well coordinated with a detailed syndicate hierarchy.

The four individuals arrested in this case have been involved in drug trafficking for more than 4-5 years and have used various methods to evade law enforcement officers.
