Joseph Glenn Herbert Sr, better known by Jo Koy is a stand-up comedian from the United States. He was a regular panelist on Elate-night!’s show Chelsea Lately, which aired every week. He has since appeared in other Comedy Central and Netflix specials.

Jo Koy was born on June 2, 1971 in Tacoma, Washington. After being married to Koy’s Filipino mother, a manager of a Philippine rock band, Koy’s American father was stationed in the Philippines while serving in the United States Air Force.

Jo’s parents separated when she was 13 years old, and after that his mother was responsible for raising all their children alone. Once he completed his high school education in Tacoma, Washington, his family moved to Los Vegas.

The family had to move to Los Vegas to be closer to Jo’s elderly grandmother. His childhood nickname inspired Jo’s stage name, which he adopted when he was eighteen. When asked about his acting and comedic skills, Jo attributes them to his mother, whom he constantly mentions in his stand-up routines.

A regular on “Catch a Rising Star” at the MGM Grand, he rose to prominence for his stand-up comedy debut in the mid-1990s. As a result, he decided to move to California.

Joe hired the Huntridge Theater and went door-to-door selling tickets to his comedy performances after appearing at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He was invited to appear on BET’s “Comic View”.

His career started from there and he won several comedy awards and appeared on numerous high profile tours and programs. He’s been on “Comic View” twice before. Several subsequent stand-up television specials followed.

“The Koy Pond” is the name of his show on PodcastOne. TruTV’s “World’s Dumbest” and “New Millenium” featured him. He was invited again to the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, where he received the coveted Canadian Gemini Award for the second time.

‘The Michael Yo and Jo Koy Show’ was launched by Jo on July 23, 2012, with the help of comedian and TV personality Michael Yo. The comic is still on the way and may be featured on “The Adam Carolla Show,” a podcast he comes out every week. He also performed stand-up in front of an audience of up to 10,000 people on the Carlos Mencia Punisher Tour.

“Don’t Make Him Angry” and “Lights Out” are two of Koy’s most popular Comedy Central shows. On March 28, 2017, Netflix aired “Jo Koy: Life from Seattle,” its third comedy special. “Joy Koy: Comin’ In Hot” was released on Netflix in June 2019.

Koy made two appearances at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, Colorado, in February 2019, as part of the closing night of the famed Aspen Laugh Festival. “Jo Koy: In His Elements” will be published by Netflix and Koy on June 12, 2020. DJs and the B-Boys were among the performers in the program.
