The Pearl Jam show in Vienna had to be canceled due to a throat injury of singer Eddie Vedder. The band blames the damage on the heat wave in Europe. The July 20 show in Vienna was cancelled.
Band statement:
“We were also looking forward to Pearl Jam’s performance in Vienna tonight. Our singer Ed Vedder’s throat was damaged from the heat, dust and smoke at the last outdoor venue outside Paris. His vocal cords have not healed despite doctors’ care. This is terrible news for everyone.”
It continued:
“Those who perform and those who attend… We’re sorry as a band and tried to perform anyway. Ed’s game. No throat accessible.”
They said:
“Sorry. Tickets purchased will be refunded. You’re welcome. PJ.”
Jeff Ament tested positive for Covid, causing Pearl Jam to cancel performances.
Jeff Ament tested positive for Covid-19 in May, forcing the band to cancel certain performances in the US. Matt Cameron, the band’s drummer, was first infected. After using audience members as stand-in drummers in Oakland on May 14, the tour continued. The band continued the tour with former drummer Dave Krusen.
Pearl Jam recruited 18-year-old fan Kai Neukermans to step in after Marr Cameron’s Covid audition. Josh Klinghoffer and Richard Stuverud also performed in Oakland. The band’s European tour started in mid-June. Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, UK, Hungary, Poland and France. On July 25 they would play in Austria and the Netherlands. This week Europe saw high temperatures and flames. Olivier Veran, a government official, said the forest fires in France are a problem. They absorbed 25 times more land than in 2021. Germany’s hottest day was also the warmest on record in the UK.
