Everything Apple Didn’t Announce at the iPhone 14 Event

Apple just wrapped up its Far Out event and gave us a glimpse of the new iPhone 14, three new Apple Watch models, and the next-generation AirPods Pro earbuds. But what about everything Apple? not done to announce?

Some of the rumors we’ve heard in the months leading up to the event never materialized, and some of our long-awaited expectations were dashed along the way. Here’s everything that could come in the future – or may have turned out to be a failure.

The mixed reality headset

Apple’s mixed-reality headset has become the elephant in the room at its events, and rumors about the device are only getting more detailed. While there was no sign of the headset at the Far Out event, that wasn’t necessarily a surprise.

We don’t expect the headset until early next year, while Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts it could hit the market in January 2023. It looks like Apple is also getting closer to launch as Apple has filed for “Reality One” and “Reality Pro” trademarks that could hint at its branding.

The device is supposed to be a standalone headset powered by an M2 chip capable of mixed reality experiences and games. Reportedly, Apple’s board of directors was allowed to try the device earlier this year, and hopefully we won’t have long to wait to see it for ourselves.

A $100 bounty on the iPhone 14 Pro

I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief here. Apple has not increased the prices of its Pro and Pro Max models, something Kuo expected back in August. Like last year, the Pro starts at $999, while the Pro Max starts at $1,099.

Calling and texting via satellite

Apple’s star-studded Far Out event branding made it seem like the company was preparing to launch groundbreaking satellite-powered connectivity for the iPhone 14. It didn’t help that rumors of Apple’s plans to support satellite calls and messaging had been going on for months. did the rounds.

There was some substance to those rumours. Apple finally announced the ability to send SOS alerts to emergency services via satellite connection on the iPhone 14. There were rumors of this feature coming to the iPhone 13 last year, and it’s nice to see it finally come to fruition. With carriers like T-Mobile looking for satellite messaging, Apple could eventually come into play, and these SOS alerts could be the first step.

(On a slightly funny side note, Huawei might have thought Apple was planning to unveil some crazy new satellite features as well, as it announced support for satellite texting on its Mate series devices the day before the event.)

A fever detection feature for the Watch Series 8

Earlier rumors indicated that Apple would introduce a new fever detection feature in the Watch Series 8. And while Apple has added two new temperature sensors to its device, their main purpose is to track fertility.

The Watch Series 8 can measure users’ temperatures every five seconds and should detect changes as low as 0.1 degrees Celsius, so users can find out when they last ovulated. Perhaps in the future Apple could expand this feature in some way to provide alerts when you have a fever. His fever detection ability may not have passed internal tests, something Apple tracker Mark Gurman warned, could hold back temperature readings earlier this year.

A new iPhone Mini

Sorry little phone fans, but the iPhone 14 lineup doesn’t include a new Mini model. Apple’s latest version of the Mini (and arguably the last) came out last year with the iPhone 13. The device has a smaller 5.4-inch screen, which may not appeal to those who prefer a larger screen. , but its compact size makes it ideal to put in your pocket.

Still, I don’t completely rule out another Mini. Apple just brought back the Plus model of the iPhone for the first time since 2018. Perhaps if Apple sees demand for a smaller device in the future (perhaps because more people are sticking to foldable phones because of their compactness), it will bring it back.

Lossless audio for the new AirPods Pro

What Apple CEO Tim Cook calls the “most advanced AirPods” still come with Bluetooth. While the second-generation AirPods Pro include some notable upgrades, including improved noise cancellation and spatial audio, they don’t come with the lossless rumor that should significantly improve sound quality.

Even if we didn’t get lossless audio this time, at least Apple has Bluetooth 5.3. built-in. This version of Bluetooth uses the new LC3 audio codec for a more efficient way to transmit audio, resulting in better audio.

A USB-C port for the iPhone

Okay, this was a bit of a gamble, but we can all dream, right? With Europe (and even Brazil) pressuring Apple to ditch its own Lightning port, we can expect Apple to introduce a USB-C port on its devices relatively soon. Apple is reportedly testing iPhones with USB-C right now, but Kuo doesn’t expect it until the second half of 2023.

What’s next?

Apple isn’t done releasing new devices this year – the company is expected to expand its Mac and iPad ranges at an event taking place in October.

There we will likely see a new iPad Pro with an M2 chip, as well as an entry-level iPad with a refreshed design. On the Mac side, Apple is rumored to announce three new Macs equipped with the M2 processor, including a Mac Mini, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro. We also expect Apple to launch iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura around this time.
