Meta will not hold its F8 developer conference in 2022, the company announced on Wednesday.

“As in previous years, we are taking a short break in programming and will not have an F8 in 2022 as we prepare for new initiatives all aligned with the next chapter of the web, as well as the next chapter of our business: building the metaverse,” Meta’s Diego Duarte Moreira said in a blog post† “Just like in the early stages of the web, building the metaverse will be a collaborative effort at every stage — with other companies, creators, and developers like you.”

Instead of F8, Moreira pointed to Meta’s “Inaugural Business Messaging Event”, called Conversations, which will take place on May 19. Moreira also said there will be another Connect event “later this year”, focusing on the company’s “VR, AR and metaverse platform offerings”. During Connect in October 2021, Facebook announced its rebrand to Meta, so it seems likely the company will have some big news to share at that event.

Other major technical conferences will take place in the coming months. Google I/O will take place May 11-12, while Apple announced Tuesday that the 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference will take place June 6-10. Both will be fully available online. And IFA 2022 is ready a personal event that will take place in person at the beginning of September.
