Last fall, Google announced a major improvement for devices running the Google TV frontend with personalized access, allowing each user in a home to have individual profiles with their own recommendations and answers from the Assistant. In December, that feature was postponed to “the next few months” and is still nowhere to be found; however, 9to5Google reports that cards for Google TV’s ambient mode screensaver announced at the same time are beginning to roll out.
When announced in October, Google showed a version of the user interface (the image above) with large personalized cards scrolling across the center of the screen. They can display information such as the weather, sports scores and news or add shortcuts to content you might like, including podcast episodes, music, and photos.
On the devices it appears on so far, 9to5Google mentions that it actually looks a little different, with smaller information chips at the bottom of the screen displaying things like YouTube video shortcuts, a podcast in Google Podcasts, or a Google Assistant prompt. If it’s enabled on your device, they state that an indication should be a menu prompt that says “proactive personal results are now enabled” so you can go to the Assistant Settings and disable them if you don’t click them. your TV want to have screen.
As with most things with Google, the exact timing of the rollout is unknown, but with Google I/O starting tomorrow, we may hear more about its smart TV features.
