By Abhishek Bhalla : On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF), the Center approved the establishment of a weapons systems branch for IAF officers.
It is the first time since independence that a new operational location has been created.
Speaking at the celebration in Chandigarh, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari said: “This will essentially be for manning four specialized streams of Surface to Surface missiles, Surface to Air Missiles, Remotely Piloted Aircraft and Weapon System Operators in aircraft with two or more crew members. “
“The establishment of this branch would result in savings of more than Rs 3,400 crore due to reduced expenditure on flight training,” he added.
