Gujarat: 11 laborers died in two years while cleaning gutters, only 6 families got compensation, government’s answer in assembly
In Gujarat, 11 laborers have died in the last two years while cleaning gutters. But the surprising thing is that the families of 6 of these people have not been given compensation yet. In fact, the government has presented the figures of the last 2 years in this regard in the assembly.
In fact, during the Question Hour in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Congress MLA Imran Khedawala asked the question that if the laborers cleaning gutters in Gujarat die in an accident, then how much compensation is given to their families by the government? In a written reply to his question, the government said that in the last two years, a total of 11 sanitation workers in the state have died while cleaning gutters. In which compensation has been given to 5 families. The families of 6 cleaning workers have not yet been given the amount of assistance.
Answering the question of Imran Khedawala in writing, the government said that from the year 2021 to 2022, 7 scavengers have died. Out of which 5 family members have been given Rs 50 lakh compensation. Rs 10 lakh has been given to the family of each deceased.
The government said that the families of 6 sanitation workers are yet to receive compensation. In which 10 lakh rupees are to be given per family. The government said that in the years 2022 and 2023, information about the death of a total of 4 sanitation workers has come to the fore. These people have not yet been given compensation.
