Hacks Season 1 Recap

Hacks begin with Deborah Vance, a legendary stand-up comedian. She has just completed a residency in Las Vegas that will set a new record for the world’s longest continuous stand-up.
Unfortunately for her, her star begins to wane and she is told that her world record-breaking performance will be her last. To relaunch Deborah’s career, Deborah’s agency teams up with another of his clients, the hapless comic writer Ava, to help her get back on track.
They are equally happy to work with the other, that is, they are not overjoyed at all. But over time, they begin to bond – Ava discovers that there is more to Deborah’s orbit than she previously realized.
Deborah recognizes the benefits and changes that come with changing her act — eventually creating a friendship. Ava can also meet other members of Deborah’s close circle.
There’s also Deborah’s manager, Marcus, who struggles to find a way to balance his work and Deborah’s business dealings with his personal life; her daughter DJ, who is desperate for something she is passionate about; and Marty, the casino owner who has decided to end Deborah’s residence.
Ava, on the other hand, is dealing with her problems. Her career was about to crash due to an erroneous tweet; she still has affection for her ex-girlfriend and her father suffers from health complications.
All of this comes to a head as Deborah prepares for her final performance as she plans to unveil the new act she and Ava have been working on together. On the other hand, Ava is offered a job as a writer for a new television show, which she keeps hidden from Deborah.
Once Ava realizes that the show is only interested in her stories of working for a demanding employer like Deborah, she turns down the opportunity. However, a word about the interview returns to Deborah.
Deborah expresses her disinterest in participating in their new show, and the two argue. Ava dismisses her as a “hacker” and leaves for her hometown of Boston to be with her ailing father, who unhappily succumbs to his illness.
Deborah unexpectedly shows up at the funeral. She tells Ava that she did participate in their performance, but it was a failure. However, she believed that certain elements worked, and she hopes to continue working on them with Ava.
With this in mind they both set out on a journey; however, at the end of the season, Ava is reminded of one thing: In her anger after resigning, she submitted a ton of information about Deborah to the television show’s writers.
