It’s almost time for the 2023 edition of the week-long Awesome Games Done Quick () Marathon. This year the event will take place between January 8 and January 15. As always, AGDQ will feature a bunch of skilled players racing to finish games as quickly as possible. In some games, runners will compete against each other and we may also see world records being broken.
AGDQ will take place entirely online for the third year in a row. The event was scheduled to take place in Florida with a live audience, but organizers dropped that plan due to the state’s “continued disregard for the dangers of COVID-19 (including anti-mandatory vaccination policies) and an increased aggression toward LGBTQ+ individuals.” .” They said that “we don’t believe it’s a safe place for our community right now,” but moving to a “safer location” was not financially viable. That means speedrunners don’t have a personal audience to cheer them on.
As usual, is full of some intriguing runs. , and (a game all about speedrunning) are among the recent titles making their first appearance on AGDQ. There are also a number of fan-favorite games in the mix, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Cup head and Portal.
I look forward to the run, and watch a crew of six players clean a number of vehicles as soon as possible. I’m also curious about a run for a game called I’ll die if I don’t eat sushi!, which I just had to buy after seeing it on the schedule. However, unless added as a bonus game, there is none This time.
AGDQ is once again raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The 2022 edition before that. AGDQ and its sister event, Summer Games Done Quick, have raised more than $41 million for charity since 2010.
