When Apple rolled out SharePlay with iOS 15.1 last year, it was only supported by a handful of apps. The list has grown a bit in recent months, with ESPN, Twitch, and Disney+ updating their apps with the ability to use the group view feature. Now you can add Hulu to the selection. The latest iOS update from the streaming service introduces SharePlay as a feature for the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV app so you can host viewing parties for shows like The Handmaid’s Tale or the outagewhich tells the story of controversial Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.
To use SharePlay, all watch party participants must have iOS 15.1 or later and have Hulu accounts and subscriptions. You must initiate a FaceTime call before opening the app. Once you’ve done this, you’ll see a notification at the top of your screen asking if you’d like to stream your content. Everyone who joins the session will have access to the pause, fast forward and rewind controls to ensure you are all looking at the same thing at the same time. FaceTime will also have a picture-in-picture box at the top, showing who is currently speaking. SharePlay even comes with a feature called smart volume that automatically lowers the show’s volume when someone in the call is talking.
In addition to SharePlay support, Hulu’s latest update has also introduced a new feature that allows you to easily switch between the live TV channels you are currently watching. You can now get the Hulu app update from the Apple App Store†
