In terms of his academic career, he attended Glenbrook North High School, where he led the Spartans to an Illinois High School Association Class AA state basketball championship as a junior, a third-place finish as a freshman in 2003, and three Elite Eight appearances in the state play- offs from 2003 to 2006.
Known as the “Jewish Jordan,” the Spartan state championship basketball team is the only one in history to have an all-Jewish starting lineup.
In addition, he later attended Glenbrook North High School. He once scored 21 points in the last 75 seconds of a match in a bid to make a comeback. Jon Scheyer is a basketball coach and former professional player. He was not selected in the 2010 NBA Draft. He also played in the 2010 Miami Heat Las Vegas Summer League, but while on the team in July, he was poked in the eye by Golden State’s Joe Ingles, resulting in a permanent injury to his right eye. Not only did he injure his optic nerve, but he also tore his retina, which had to be surgically repaired.
In 2010, he was invited to the Clippers’ training camp in Los Angeles, but was released when the team’s final roster was determined. He also played shooting guard for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League in 2011. He also spent time with Maccabi Tel Aviv (2011-12) and Gran Canaria (2012-13).
Jon Scheyer joined Duke’s basketball coaching staff as a special assistant after assistant coach Chris Collins resigned in April 2013. On April 18, 2014, he was promoted to full-time assistant coach after Steve Wojciechowski left the team.
Jon and Nate James were promoted to Co-Associate Head Coach after Associate Head Coach Jeff Capel resigned at the end of the 2018 season. On January 6, 2021, he took over as Acting Head Coach during Duke’s 83-82 win over Boston College, in replacing Krzyzewski, who was unable to play as he was placed in isolation after contracting COVID-19.
