Google has started sending out invites to its fall hardware event, which will take place on Thursday, October 6 at 10 a.m. ET. The event will launch the upcoming Pixel 7 phones as well as the Pixel Watch — the company showcased both devices at its I/O event earlier this year and announced they’ll be coming in the fall.
Google’s announcement comes just one day before Apple’s Far Out event, where it will unveil the iPhone 14 – you can follow all the news about those announcements here. Since Google’s last event, alleged leaks have revealed even more about the devices, with both the watch and phones seemingly getting into people’s hands.
The leaks didn’t reveal much about the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro that we didn’t already know, such as the fact that it has an aluminum camera bar with two cutouts on the back for the Pro model. Someone managed to unpack the phone and boot it up, but considering Android 13 has already been rolled out on other devices, that’s not exactly new. Earlier this year, however, a Redditor got his hands on a prototype Pixel Watch (it was reportedly left in a restaurant). While it wouldn’t boot, their photos gave us a better idea of ​​the watch’s size, as well as what it will look like on the wrist.
The Pixel 7 appears to be a pretty basic continuation of the previous generation of phones, but there’s a bit of pressure with the Watch being the “first smartwatch built by Google, inside and out,” as his product page on Google’s online store says. Google’s competitors (namely Samsung and Apple) have been making wearables for years, so the company’s entry must be competent and at least somewhat competitive. So far there are few details about it – we don’t even know which chip it will use – but we should get a clearer picture on October 6.
