Earlier Wednesday, at least 13,000 customers in New Jersey were affected by a major outage at Optimum, according to company data. fault map† However, as of 4:33 p.m. ET, the map shows that the number of those affected has fallen dramatically to more than 1,800, indicating that service is being restored.
Optimum, which is owned by Altice USA and offers Internet, TV and telephone services, has not indicated which of its services will be unavailable, although the outages appear to affect all three customers in the Parsippany-Troy Hills and Boonton areas.
“Earlier today, a car accident on Route 53 toppled a pole, causing a fire, leading to the loss of services for some Optimum customers in the Parsippany, NJ area,” said Altice spokesman Ashwin Bhandari. USA in a statement to The edge† “Our teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and are currently carrying out repairs to restore service to affected customers as quickly as possible. We appreciate the patience of our customers at this time and will provide an update on the restoration.”
