By Divyesh Singh: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Friday arrested a man with 4.98 kg of heroin worth Rs 35 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The DRI had received information about a passenger attempting to smuggle a drug shipment into the country, after which officials tightened surveillance at the airport.
A man traveling from Nairobi (Kenya) to Mumbai was intercepted on suspicion as he crossed the Green Channel.
When searching his luggage, officials found 4.98kg of powdered off-white substance in a bag, and tests revealed the presence of heroin.
The heroin was ingeniously hidden in a black plastic bag under the fake cavity made in the trolley bag to make it difficult to detect.
Further investigation into the case is underway to locate and neutralize the international drug smuggling syndicate.
