By Tanseem Haider: Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a man who assaulted a police officer and snatched his service pistol during the 2020 Delhi riots.

The suspect has been identified as Sahid (23). The stolen gun was recovered from him.

The lead officer, Chhetrapal, suffered serious injuries during the attack and is still in a persistent vegetative state.

In a related case, police have detained three gunmen involved in a shooting at a BJP office during the Delhi riots.

Furthermore, the gunmen are part of the infamous Irfan aka Chhenu, gang.

Police have recovered a 9mm service pistol with five live rounds looted from the chief constable during the riot.

During interrogation, Sahid revealed that he took part in the February 2020 protests in Delhi against CAA-NRC. He and others were part of a protest blocking Wazirabad Road, sparking riots there, police said.

He joined other rioters and attacked on-duty police officers. He also snatched a service pistol from senior constable Chhetrapal Singh and attacked him, seriously injuring him, police added.
