Minecraft has been updated with a tribute to popular streamer Technoblade, whose death from cancer was announced by his family last week. The splash image for Minecraft the game’s launcher now shows a pig with a golden crown – a call to Technoblade’s Minecraft character, a royal pig man wearing a bejeweled crown.
The Minecraft team tweeted on Friday that the team was “heartbroken at the loss of Technoblade”, writing that he brought “so much joy” to the gaming community.
We’ve been trying to find the words, but everyone here at Minecraft is heartbroken at the loss of Technoblade. He meant so much to our community and brought so much joy. He will be sorely missed.

Technoblade was hugely popular Minecraft streamer, with over 13 million subscribers on Youtube, and was part of the hit server Dream SMP. In a YouTube video published last Thursday, Technoblade’s father read a message from the streamer and discussed the work that went into making this latest video as he struggled with cancer. At the time of writing, it has over 54 million views.
Tributes to Technoblade poured in from other streamers and members of the Minecraft creative community. In the days that followed, numerous pieces of commemorative fan art were also posted on Twitter.
The Minecraft The team hasn’t immediately acknowledged that the splash screen has been updated, but it has clearly pushed this small change forward as a tribute. The original version of the launcher image still has a pig in the same position, but it lacks Technoblade’s signature crown.
