There was never really any doubt that Netflix would make its comeback, but the company has finally officially given the green light to season two of † It has not been announced when the next set of episodes will be released on the streaming service.
Squid Game became a word of mouth when it debuted last September. Netflix said that viewers watched just over 1.65 billion hours of the first season in its first 28 days of availability. Robbery: part 5, who arrived that same month, is in second place with 792 million hours watched over the same period — less than half of the total watch time of Squid Game†
The show took home Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards this year. It will likely play a big part in the Emmy nominations when those are announced next month.
Last October, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk he wasn’t sure if there would be any more episodes, but he was going to talk to the company because he wanted to make a movie first. Netflix said in January that there would be “definitely” a second season, but it’s not clear why it took so long for a formal announcement.
Not too many details have been revealed for season two of Squid Game just. hwang protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) returns, as does villain The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). Additionally, Hwang promised to unveil Young-hee’s “boyfriend,” the giant animatronic doll that kept an eye on competitors during the show’s first deadly game, Red Light, Green Light.
