It arrives several months later than expected, but Arkane’s next big game is (relatively) close. The studio has confirmed Which redfall will be available on May 2 for Xbox Series X/S and Windows PCs, with launch day access via Game Pass. As before, the vampire-slaying shooter is an extension of the formulas behind it dishonored and Prey – it’s a stealth-friendly game built with multiplayer and unpredictability in mind.

Like other Arkane titles, redfall depends on the choice of the player. You can fight directly against the vampires that take over the game’s city of the same name, but you’ll also be rewarded for being stealthy or using your gear wisely. The concept of the open world is not strictly new (Prey had), but the character selection and the online play did. You can choose a hero that suits your playstyle, and up to four people can take down the villains in co-op mode. Certain tactics only work when you play as a team.

The free gameplay adds some variety, but you can also expect weapons with random stats and customization. Some mechanics will be familiar. You’ll find activities beyond the main story missions (such as rescuing survivors), skill trees, and other systems that encourage doing more than the essentials.

It’s too early to say if redfall will preserve Arkane’s reputation. However, it is clear that the developer likes to build on his better known gameplay mechanics rather than taking risks like he did with Deathloop. If you’ve tried Prey and wished your friends could join in, but you might be happy.
