‘Returnal’ will get free co-op mode on March 22
Sony’s State of Play livestream today was short on important news, but there was a surprising nugget: Return will receive a major update on March 22. Return: Ascension adds co-op capabilities and a new survival mode to the game, and it will be completely free.
Return is exclusively for PlayStation 5 developed by Housemarque. It’s a roguelike shooter where players are stuck in a time loop on a hostile alien planet, and it gets a lot of things right, including massive enemies and a punishing reward system. Exclusive to PS5, Return makes good use of the haptics of the DualSense controller and Sony’s 3D audio technology.
Ascension Day will be Return‘s 3.0 update. The game’s 2.0 update in October 2021 added a photo mode and a suspend option that allowed players to save their progress mid-run, but only under certain conditions. It’s a roguelike after all.
