Sailor Moon Cosmos ends Sailor Stars storyline in 2023

Anime fans looking forward to the Sailor Moon Crystal Season 4 release date now have another reason to be excited now that the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos release date for Summer 2023 has been confirmed.
Just as Knights of Sidonia ended with a movie instead of a third season, the final Sailor Moon Crystal Stars storyline will be adapted by a two-part film instead of a fourth season.
We know that the Sailor Moon 2023 movie ends the entire story of the manga as the Sailor Moon Cosmos trailer calls this movie “the final chapter”.
The Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal movies were a direct sequel to the third season of the Sailor Moon Crystal anime series. Originally scheduled for late summer 2020, but delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Part 1 will be released in Japanese theaters on January 8, 2021.
The full title of the movie was Pretty Guardians Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie (Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal). The movie lasted 80 minutes.
When it comes to worldwide streaming, the release date of Sailor Moon Eternal from Netflix for the US, Canada and many other countries was June 3, 2021.
When the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2 release date was February 11, 2021, the film’s ending teased audiences by saying, “to be continued.” Instead of a Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal season 4 TV sequel, we now know that the sequel will come in the form of a new two-part movie series.

Sailor Moon Eternal production was hit by the global SARS-COV-2 pandemic. In April 2020, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared a national emergency. Tokyo in particular was hit by the virus, which went through several waves in Japan.
The schedules of many anime studios suffered from cascading effects due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the mitigation efforts of all countries. Many studios outsource parts of the production process to contractors in China and South Korea. Sometimes compositing is completely outsourced and these companies carry out several projects at the same time.
Due to the interconnected nature of the production process, the progress rate for many studios has dropped dramatically to the point where rescheduling is necessary. The Promised Neverland Season 2, Food Wars! Season 5, Re:ZERO Season 2, Sword Art Online: Alicization Final Season, and No Guns Life Part 2 were all delayed to later dates.
Hopefully the same won’t happen with the Sailor Moon Cosmos movie.

This article contains all that is known about Sailor Moon Crystal Season 4 (Sailor Moon Cosmos) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors and analysis. In the meantime, let’s get into what is known for sure.
Sailor Moon Crystal Cosmos’ story to complete the fifth and final storyline of the manga?
Creator Naoko Takeuchi’s original Sailor Moon manga series ran from 1991 to 1997. Its 60 chapters were collected into 18 tankobon volumes. Kodansha Comics has released the official English translation in North America.
The original concept for Sailor Moon was just one storyline involving the Dark Kingdom. Episodes of the anime version aired just a few months after the corresponding manga chapters arrived in Japan.
Despite the series being closely linked and controlled, there were some significant differences between the original anime and the manga. Takeuchi wanted to kill the main characters but couldn’t because it was a shojo manga series aimed at the teenage girl demographic. Although Takeuchi was not allowed to carry out her vision, in the anime version the Sailor Soldiers died fighting Queen Metaria only to be brought back to life by Usagi using the silver crystal.
Due to the great success of the first storyline, Toei asked Takeuchi to make a sequel. And each of the additional storylines was adapted into anime in the 90s.
The Sailor Moon Crystal anime is meant to be a reboot of the entire series that more closely follows the story of the manga. The original plot was divided into five main story arcs and their associated villains.
The third season of the Sailor Moon Crystal anime adapted the Death Busters arc, based on the Infinity arc from the manga series. The two-part film series takes the place of Sailor Moon Crystal Season 4 by covering the story events of the manga’s Dead Moon arc.
Since the Sailor Moon Eternal movies deal with the story events of the fourth manga storyline instead of Sailor Moon Moon Crystal season 4, the Sailor Moon Cosmos movie will similarly take the place of Sailor Moon Crystal season 5.
Warning: The following contains spoilers as part of a plot summary/synopsis for Sailor Moon Eternal and the future Sailor Moon Cosmos movie.
The story of the Sailor Moon Eternal movie focused on High Priest Helios trying to save his kingdom of Elysion. Opposite the Sailor Guardians is the Dead Moon Circus, which is run by Zirconia in the absence of the dark queen Nehelenia, trapped in a mirror at the time.
To take over Earth, Zirconia seeks the legendary Golden Crystal that will help her free the dark queen Nehelenia from captivity. To fight back against this threat, the Sailor Sailors figure out how to transform Usagi into Eternal Sailor Moon, which is where the film series gets its title.
That means the Season 4 of Sailor Moon Crystal could potentially be the end of the entire story, ending the manga’s fifth and final storyline, the Sailor Stars arc. It tells the story of Sailor Guardians, known as the Sailor Starlights, who search for the missing princess from their home planet Kinmoku.
The Sailor Guardians will battle Shadow Galactica and its leader Sailor Galaxia, the most powerful Sailor Guardian in the galaxy. Galaxia has ravaged worlds, literally smashing planets in her obsession to obtain the strongest Sailor Crystal.
At the command of Galaxia, her minions have killed the Sailor Guardians of their home planets and used their crystals to become the Sailor Animamates. Galaxia wants to take over the galaxy and destroy an evil life form called Chaos.

Sailor Moon Cosmos release date likely in July 2023?
As of the latest update, Toei Animation, or any other company involved in the production of the anime, has not officially confirmed the exact release date of Sailor Moon Cosmos. On April 28, 2022, the time frame was confirmed to be Summer 2023, but not the exact month.
Once the news is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when the Sailor Moon Cosmos release date will be in the future.
May through July is generally considered the best timing for a tentpole movie to have a chance at a blockbuster premiere, while January and February are considered the “dump months” for bad movies. Given that information, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Sailor Moon Cosmos movie’s release date was set for July 2023, which is considered early summer 2023 in the anime industry.
It is a long wait for Toei Animation to continue the story. Since Sailor Moon Eternal 2 comes out in February 2021, fans have had to wait several years.
Let’s be glad Toei Animation wraps up the whole story. Stay tuned!
