Early life, education and career start
Growing up in Cork, Sarah didn’t think much of an acting career until her parents took her to a theatrical performance of “Little Red Riding Hood”. She became interested in the performing arts and with the support of her parents, she took her first acting classes at the CADA drama school, which is known for helping several international stars produce.
Growing up, she developed her skills by participating in local musicals and plays, complementing them with formal acting classes. Her debut was in “The King and I” in Cork, and after studying at CADA she moved to Dublin to study at the Gaiety School of Acting.
The drama school was founded in the late 1980s by actor Joe Dowling, because there were no immediately accessible acting schools in the area for those wishing to pursue the profession. After graduating in 2006, she quickly sought work and made her television debut in “Bachelors Walk” in a small unnamed role.
Continued acting
In 2008, Greene made her film debut in the independent feature film “Eden”, before getting her first mainstream project in “Love and Savagery”, in which she played the character Cathleen – the film was a Canadian collaboration and starred Allan Hawco. She portrays his character’s love interest, an orphan about to become a nun. Around the same time, she also worked on her first notable theater project, “The Playboy of the Western World”.
The story is about a young man who runs away from his farm in the 1900s, claiming that he killed his father, but does not deal with the supposed consequences of his actions.
In the 2010s, she started getting more notable roles in film, as seen in “The guard” starring Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson. The film was a box office success and was nominated for several awards, including a Golden Globe for Gleeson. She also appeared in ‘Noble’, a biographical film based on the life of child rights lawyer Christina Noble, who is responsible for founding the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation in the late 1980s. She also made a guest appearance in “The Assets”.
The plays she has worked on during this period include “Little Gem” and “Between Foxrock and a Hard Place.”
Rise to Fame – Theater and Television
In 2013, Sarah was cast in the role of Helen McCormick for the production of “The cripple of Inishmaan”. The piece attracted a lot of attention in her own way, especially because of her work with co-star Daniel Radcliffe. The show is based on the documentary “Man of Aran”, which tells the story of the inhabitants of Inishmaan, a small community that is excited by the arrival of a Hollywood film crew. The story mainly focuses on the crippled Billy Claven, who wants to be a part of this film.

The show was so successful that she had another run in New York a year later, also successful, after which she was cast in the recurring role of Hecate Poole on the series “Penny Terrible”, starring Timothy Dalton, Eva Green and Josh Hartnett. The title refers to fictional publications that were popular in 19th-century Britain, with stories often sensationalized to have a more entertaining effect. The show features several popular fictional characters such as Dr. Henry Jekyll, Victor Frankenstein and his monster, Count Dracula, and Abraham Van Helsing.
Recent projects
In addition to her television work, Green also ventured into the video game world, with one of her first projects “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag”, in which she voiced Anne Bonny. As the name implies, the video game is part of the “Assassin’s Creed” series, which is set during the Golden Age of Piracy. It follows the story of Edward Kenway, a Welsh pirate who rose to fame in the Caribbean in the 18th century. Then she worked on the game”The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘, which is based on the novel series ‘The Witcher’ written by Andrzej Sapkowski, about the titular character, a monster slayer with unusual abilities.
Sarah was also cast in the show “Ransom”, as one of the main characters. The show aired on CBS and is a co-production with France and Canada. She was only part of the show during the first season, but some of her latest projects include “Normal People,” “Rosie” and “The Bunker.” She also remains active on stage, with one of her latest projects being “The Ferryman”. The play is about a former member of the Irish Republican Army living in rural Northern Ireland during ‘the troubles’ between the north of the UK and Ireland.

She keeps fit through yoga and walking, because she doesn’t like going to the gym. Because of her work, she travels a lot and has no permanent residence, except her parental home.
