Rebel Wilson’s Senior Year will be the next addition to Netflix’s roster of rom-com films in 2022. With the help of Todd Garner and Chris Bender, Wilson is also producing the picture. Wilson previously announced that she will be taking a break from acting in 2020 to focus on her health. The plot revolves around a cheerleader trying to recapture her high school life after being in a coma for 20 years. Senior Year will premiere on Netflix in May 2022.
Brandon Scott Jones is writing the script for the film, which is based on a spec written by Andrew Knauer and Arthur Pielli and directed by Alex Hardcastle (Grace and Frankie, Love, Simon). This will be Hardcastle’s feature film debut as a director, and he is best known for directing episodes of such television shows as Parks and Recreation, Grace and Frankie and The Office.
Executive producers are Jeremy Stein, Jake Wagner and Jake Weiner, and they are all from New York. The film is being produced by Paramount Players, a new subsidiary of Paramount Pictures that focuses on modern genre films from emerging directors. The film is distributed by Netflix.
While it wasn’t initially reported that the photo would be available on Netflix, it appears that the streaming service has discreetly purchased the rights to it, as evidenced by Production Weekly’s issue of issue 1242.

The Plot of Senior Year
A high school cheerleader who wakes from a 20-year coma and returns to her alma mater to try to reclaim her position and win the balcony girl title that eluded her is the focus of Netflix’s Senior Year- series. The following is the plot summary for the film:
Set in 1997, it tells the story of Ruby, who was the most popular girl in her high school at the time. Not only is she captain of the cheering team, but she’s also dating the quarterback, and she’s well on her way to becoming queen of the prom. Girls aspire to be like her, and men want to be with her. Until she falls off the top of the cheerleading pyramid and slips into a coma, she seems to have it all figured out.
Fast forward 20 years and Ruby finally wakes up from her coma as a 37-year-old woman, having spent the previous 20 years unconscious. She returns to her high school and tries to regain her former position as the school’s top performer. But most importantly, she is still focused on achieving the title of balancing girl.

Senior year director, writer and more
Alex Hardcastle (“Grace and Frankie,” “Love, Simon”) directs his first feature, “Senior Year,” his feature film debut. “Parks & Recreation” and “The Office” director David Hardcastle has already directed sitcoms, so it will be intriguing to see how he performs in a feature film. Adapted from a spec script by Andrew Knauer.
(“The Last Stand”) and Arthur Pielli (“The Last Stand”), the script was written by Brandon Scott Jones (who co-starred with Wilson in the movie “Isn’t It Romantic”) (“Ghost Team One”) . Presidents Jeremy Stein, Jake Wagner and Jacob Weiner serve as executive producers for the film. Netflix and Paramount Players will collaborate on the film’s production.
What is the Senior Year about?
Ruby was the most popular girl in her high school in 1997, according to her peers. In addition to serving as captain of the cheering squad and having a relationship with the football team’s quarterback, she was on her way to being crowned queen of the prom.
Despite the fact that Ruby seems to have everything she could wish for when she goes off the top of a cheerleading pyramid, Ruby remains in a state of unconsciousness.
Ruby wakes up from her coma as a 37-year-old woman, 20 years after falling into a coma. So, instead of adjusting to her new adult life, she decides to return to high school to finish what she started, with the goal of restoring her position as queen bee and eventually getting the title of ball princess. Yes that is correct. This particular type of humor is one that I enjoy very much.
Trailer for seniors
The Senior Year clip shows how far Wilson is ready to go in his portrayal of Stephanie, and how traditional standards of popularity may no longer apply. Plus, there are now a lot more Fast & Furious movies available than before.
