The Early Life of Billy Corgan

Billy Corgan

When he was born on March 17, 1967, William Patrick Corgan Jr. established himself as an important character in the alternative music scene, most notably as a singer and lone constant member of Smashing Pumpkins.

After watching a Flying V guitar at a friend’s house, he decided to play guitar at Glenbard North High School. As a result, Corgan passed his money over to his father, who bought him a second-hand Les Paul knock-off, which Corgan then taught himself to play.

Corgan was influenced by a wide variety of mainstream rock artists during this period, including John Cale, Black Sabbath and Queen. He also became acquainted with bands such as Bauhaus and The Cure and alternative rock. After graduating from high school, he turned down multiple scholarships and made offers to pursue a career in music.

Corgan and the Chicago music industry disagreed, so he traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1985 with his debut band, The Marked. After failing in Florida, the band broke up. From 1987 to 1988, Corgan lived in Chicago with his father and formed the band Deep Blue Dream. He started The Smashing Pumpkins after leaving the band.

American recording artist Billy Corgan has a net worth of $60 million as a musician, songwriter, producer and poet. In the late 1980s, Billy Corgan co-founded the band Smashing Pumpkins. While working at a record store, Corgan met guitarist James Iha. After a show, he met bassist D’arcy Wretzky, and they disagreed about the band. The three created the Smashing Pumpkins and began performing in local clubs with a drum machine.

On October 5, 1988, they played as a foursome with Jimmy Chamberlin for the first time. The inclusion of Chamberlain made the band heavier. The band released “Gish” in 1991. Their second album, “Siamese Dream”, was a multi-platinum hit in 1993.

“Today”, “Cherub Rock” and “Disarm” were the album’s biggest hits. The Smashing Pumpkins had become a major label hit in less than three years. Since the band’s inception, Corgan has guided the band’s path with his candid lyrics, lavish production, and musical interaction.

In 1995, The Smashing Pumpkins released “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”, which resulted in a string of No. 1 hits. The album was awarded seven Grammys that year and went platinum. “1979” was their biggest hit.

Professional wrestling

In 2011, Corgan founded Resistance Pro, an independent wrestling organization headquartered in Chicago. Total Nonstop Action Wrestling hired Corgan as the new Senior Producer of Creative and Talent Development in April 2015.

TNA elected him president in August of that year. An argument over unpaid wages led to him leaving TNA just three months later. Corgan bought the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in May 2017. On October 1, 2017, he became the owner of the company.
