Spotify and Discord are back online after a malfunction
Spotify and Discord are currently unavailable and inaccessible to users. It’s unclear what caused the problem or if the two outages are related, but users began reporting issues with both services at about 1:00 p.m. ET, according to reports on downdetector.com†
Spotify acknowledged the outage on Twitter, writing that “something isn’t right” but didn’t go any further.
Likewise, Discord said it was “working on a fix.” The company wrote further her website that a “problem has occurred causing a major failure in the API” and that it was investigating the “root cause”. The latest outage occurred after a previous issue was resolved Tuesday morning.
We have contacted both companies for more information. In the meantime, Discord encourages users to: “to go outside.”
Update 3/8 14:48 ET† Spotify seems to have dissolved the malfunction and the service is available again. Discord is still experiencing some issues, but is also starting to come back online. “As we continue to investigate the root cause, work has begun on restoring service by working around the issue,” the company wrote in its latest Updating† “Oncall Engineering will let more traffic through as we restore service.”
Update 3/8 3:15 p.m. ET: disagreement confirmed that messages, calls and streams are back up and running and that other features should “come back online soon”.
Spotify also confirmed in a statement that it “should function normally for most users”. Neither company has further explained the cause of the outage.
“Spotify and several other platforms experienced a brief service interruption today, starting around 1:15 p.m. EST,” a spokesperson told cafe-madrid. “As of 2:40 PM EST, Spotify will be back up and running and functioning normally for most users.”
