TCS is India’s most valuable brand worth $45.5 billion: Kantar

Tata Consultancy Services is India’s most valuable brand with a valuation of $45.5 billion, according to Kantar BrandZ 75 brands.

TCS claimed the top spot from HDFC Bank, which is now ranked #2 with a valuation of $32.7 billion. infosys ($29.2 billion) and ICICI bank ($11 billion) reached the top 10 for the first time.

Tech and banking brands accounted for more than half of the total value. Six B2B technology brands and 11 consumer technology brands contributed 35% of the total value.

Conspicuity – the ability of brands to quickly come to mind when a consumer has a need was a common feature in India’s Top 10 brands.

Tech brands and banks account for half of the brand value

The list of 75 brands in 23 categories rebounded from the pandemic lows to increase their brand equity at a massive CAGR of 35% since 2020. India’s top 75 brands collectively account for $393 billion, equivalent to 11% of the total. Indian GDP.

Between August 2014 and June 2022, the Sensex stock index rose 63.8%, while the brand value of these companies rose 81.8%, Kantar claimed.

As many as 11 consumer technology brands made it to the list, also contributing to 11% of the total brand value. The four most valuable brands in the consumer category were Flipkart (No. 12; $8.9 billion), Byju’s (No. 19; $5.5 billion), Swiggy (No. 20; $4.8 billion) and Nykaa (No. no. 25; $3.7 billion).

Airtel beats Jio as telecom leader

Among telecom providers, Airtel was at number 4 and Jio at number 10. Important newcomers were Vi, ranked at number 15 after the merger between Vodafone and Idea.

Byju’s was ranked number 19, making it India’s most valuable education brand.

Compared to the rest of the world, Indians are more willing to choose environmentally conscious brands due to ongoing climate change.

Overall, 65% of Indians are concerned about climate change and 64% believe that businesses should play their part, Kantar reports. The top brands in the Top 75 are clear on purpose and have a relevant sustainability agenda.

Platforms like Zomato, ranked 30th, uses climate-conscious deliveries by reducing and offsetting carbon emissions. Swiggy and Flipkart also help smaller local brands connect with consumers through their platform.

“Targeted and sustainable brands are rewarded. Indian consumers look beyond the brand attributes that concern them personally – they want brands to improve people’s lives and have a positive impact on society as a whole,” said Soumya Mohanty, managing director -Insights Division, Kantar.
