This is a response to 15 US Museums to Visit After the Pandemic
As an avid museum goer, I loved the variety of great settings this creator of Odyssey has included in their list of US sites. Wherever I travel, I make an effort to visit a nearby museum, especially an art museum! While I’ve visited some of the locations on the list, I feel like there’s always an endless number of important places to visit when exploring the history and culture of a new place. From museums that focus on important cultural and historical events and topics, we can all learn more about what we are passionate about and want to learn more about.
For example, on my school trip to Washington DC, we visited historic sites and museums related to what we learned in our American history classes, from the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania to the Smithsonian in Washington. Although I visited a while ago, I agree with the author that they offer diverse collections that provide incredible opportunities to learn more about millions of artifacts and specimens.
My personal American museum favorites that are not on this list are the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in my hometown of Cleveland. Being able to visit the most important museums in an area covering the history and culture of an event or series of events in that area gives an insight into why these historical and cultural moments are important.
Whether they show the beauty of humanity or a tragedy that we should try to avoid recreating, I believe that exploring our national and international history is a beneficial opportunity throughout our lives that we should take advantage of! Most recently, during my semester studying abroad in Europe, I was able to visit great art and history museums, my favorites are the Louvre in Paris, the Titanic Museum in Belfast, the Claude Monet House and Garden Museum in Giverny and the Chocolate Museum in Cologne. By learning about the various key locations of an event, for example the Titanic Museums in Missouri and Belfast, Northern Ireland, we can learn more about its history.
Furthermore, I agree with the author that the opportunity to reflect and learn in a calm environment is good for our mental health, because when I go to art museums I spend most of my time appreciating the great cultural and artistic impact of the pieces. I would also love to travel to the museums on the list and appreciate the diverse themes of the creator as everyone has different preferences on what they want to learn more about! I can confirm that winter break is a great time for students to explore the museums around them and perhaps during their travels.
This weekend is my second time to New York City and I’m looking forward to exploring museums I haven’t visited before, including the 9/11 Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art!
