Amazon is already developing The Lord of the Rings series: The Rings of Power, which takes place hundreds of years before the events of the Peter Jackson movies and is rumored to be the most expensive series in history, featuring more than The Crown, which is the most expensive on Netflix.
The Amazon series, directed by Spaniard Juan Antonio Bayona, was filmed in New Zealand (where the films were also shot), and the first photos show that it contains huge sequences, breathtaking sets and all the details you need to return to Middle Earth.
The Lord of the Rings series seeks to recreate the settings, battles, creatures and characters from Tolkien’s iconic books, and with Peter Jackson’s films as its precedent, they intend to create something more visually impressive than comparable fantasy series – Game of Thrones, The Witcher, etc.
Huge expectations already exist for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, especially with the Game of Thrones prequel on the horizon. Amazon announced more than a year ago that it had acquired the rights to The Lord of the Rings novels and planned to turn them into a new epic television series for movie fans. Amazon had to pay more than $200 million for the rights, and after calculating production costs, casting and visual effects, the series will have a budget of more than $1 billion.
The first season of the series is rumored to cost about $465 million, which is four times what HBO spent to produce seasons of Game of Thrones, which cost $100 million each. Stuart Nash, the country’s secretary of economic development and tourism, told Morning Report today that Amazon will spend about $650 million on Season 1 alone. This is going to be the most popular television program ever.
The massive production will transport us back to the universe created by Tolkien in the Lord of the Rings books, and fans already have enough information to anticipate what will surely be one of the best Amazon series.
The highly anticipated trailer for the series has finally been released and is packed with amazing creatures, dramatic battles, breathtaking landscapes and people from Tolkien’s history revealing more about the Ring of Sauron’s past.
At some point in the series, the stories of the Hobbits and the dwarves will intertwine with those of the elves, as depicted in the most recent series teaser. We also witness a mysterious meteorite falling from the sky, which could be a crucial object that unites everyone.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
The title of the series was finally announced. The title of the series, The Rings of Power, confirms that we travel back in time to when all existing rings of power were produced and given to their respective owners, before Sauron built his own to rule the rest.
This indicates that we will see the first princes from whom Aragon sprang, who began to be corrupted by power.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings together all the major events of the Second Age of Middle-earth: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic story of Nmenor and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, according to showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay. “Until now, viewers have only seen the One Ring story on film; but before there was One, there were many, and we’d like to reveal the epic histories of them all.”
When is The Lord of the Rings coming out?
Amazon has now confirmed that the series premiere date will be September 2, 2022. What is the plot of The Lord of the Rings?
Amazon recently released the official synopsis, which offers plenty of hints about the plot and characters.
“The new series from Amazon Studios will bring the legendary Second Age of Middle-earth to the big screen for the first time. Set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’, this epic drama transports viewers to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell, improbable heroes were put to the test, and Tolkien’s greatest villain threatened to cover the whole world in darkness. The story begins in a period of relative calm and follows a cast of familiar and new characters as they face the dreaded return of evil to Middle-earth. From the deepest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elven capital Lindon to the breathtaking island kingdom of Nmenor to the outer reaches of the map, these lands and characters will leave legacies that will last long after they’ve left.
They may refer to Sauron, who appears in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies, as the synopsis indicates that they take us back to the time when the rings of power were forged.
Will we see some of the characters from the movies?
The series is not set in the same time frame as the movies, but three iconic characters are rumored to appear in the plot.
According to TheOneRing.Net, Galadriel, Sauron and Elrond will appear in the series. The cast of Morfydd Clark as a younger Galadriel confirms that the majority of the characters from the movies who are not eternal elves will not appear in this adaptation.
Set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, which was briefly explored in the films, the series includes key events such as the rise and fall of Nmenor, the building of the Rings of Power, and the formation of the Last Alliance, leading to we can see how Sauron became the most powerful evil.
