As he rose to prominence within the company, he became more outspoken and critical of some policies, and was a strong voice for helping the African American community, although this in turn has led to some controversy.
Because of some of his words in the air, he was the subject of negativity, and on one occasion he received death threats, leading him to approach the police. He is also a outspoken critic of the Trump administration, which has repeatedly accused Trump of racism. Despite all the troubles and confrontations he has had, he has also become a key figure when it comes to speaking out for the LGBTQ community. He received a Native Son Award in recognition of his contributions to the black gay community.
Private life
Tim met Don sometime in late 2016 and the two started dating shortly after. Their relationship was rumored when they were spotted holding hands at an event. They started posting photos online through websites such as Instagram, and in 2018 the couple went public their relationship on the “CNN New Year’s Live” show, when Lemon publicly kissed his friend. In mid-2019, the couple announced their engagement and celebrated with their dogs. While the two are now engaged, they have reiterated that they are in no rush to get married, but prefer to make preparations slowly every step of the way.
