What are the fashion trends (and clothing) that will dominate our appearance during the summer months? Most importantly, there are so many trends, some of which are quite bizarre, which ones are right for all women? We’ve taken a closer look at the catwalks and, with the help of our personal stylist Piluka de Echegaray, outlined the most flattering trends and clothing for Summer 2022.
1. Mini skirts
Micro minis have been featured in numerous designer shows, most notably Miu Miu, and while we love the idea of increasing hemlines and showing a small leg this summer, we don’t believe skirts that are so short you can’t get in. sitting would be popular. The more accessible version of the runway trend—miniskirts that hit mid-thigh to just above the knee—are already making waves and can be worn in a variety of ways. Some wear their minis with matching blazers, some with pleated tennis skirts and some with a traditional denim skirt and casual T-shirt as their summer uniform. Your thigh-bare oyster is the world.
2. Summer Costume
Sophistication without being stuffy? Sure, totally. The abundance of summer season costumes will not weigh you down thanks to the lighter color and fabric alternatives. “While dresses are an easy summer go-to,” Grant adds, “a suit is a great option that delivers the same style from head to toe, but with a contemporary twist.” If you don’t like wearing suits from head to toe, mix the look with elegant items such as a white jacket and jeans or cream colored trousers combined with a breezy top.
3. Be square
I believe wayfarer or wayfarer style styles are always appropriate. I’m still wearing my square shape RB3686 through Ray Bano travelers and get a lot of comments about it. This simple, classic shape is always a smart choice and with a wide range of sizes (from large to thin) it fits every face.
4. Baseball Hats
Baseball caps are one of my favorite styles and Katz believes that they are indispensable. “Over the past few seasons, designers on the runway have brought back and reinvented the old-fashioned ball hat,” she explains. “It’s been there for a long time, but we see it dressed in a much more sophisticated way this time.”
Matching my hats with my bikinis is one of my favorite aspects of packing for vacation, but Katz points out that the style can be worn well beyond the beach. “Try wearing a ball hat with a sundress and shoes,” she advises. “I also wear it all day with a business dress, a chunky dad shoe and a wide belt to emphasize the waist.”
5. Summer T-Shirt
The sun is shining and the temperature is skyrocketing. Winter is a distant memory and the idea of layering garments has been shelved until the leaves begin to fall.
In such circumstances, it can be tempting to downgrade anything with a collar to the back of the closet in favor of a T-shirt. In fact, having a core selection of summer clothes on hand is the first rule for warm weather.
Wearing a shirt in the sun does not have to mean that you are warm under the collar. To master everything from heat waves to vacations, choose seasonal patterns in airy materials and vibrant colors.
Here are the summer shirt styles you need to know, as well as why they should be in your rotation.
6. Accessorize with silk scarves
Lindsey Dupuis, a famous stylist, tells InStyle that she has been waiting (im)patiently for the return of the silk scarf trend since her Catholic school days when she would wrap this item over her hair.
“When there were few exceptions to the dress code, the style gave me a spark of self-expression,” says Dupuis. “Personalise them by wrapping them around your neck, ponytail, purse, or weaving them through your braid or belt loops.”
