Before the holidays, the airline tickets from Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta to patna has recorded a more than threefold increase in off-season rates.

The price of the flight from Delhi to Patna on October 22 was Rs 14,000 while the flight from Mumbai to Patna reached Rs 20,000. The current fare from these two places to Patna is more than the fare from Delhi to Sharjah which is Rs 11,000. The current ticket from Delhi to Bangkok costs Rs 10,500, and Delhi to Singapore costs Rs 13,000. The airfare from Kolkata to Patna was increased to Rs 10,500.

The airlines used the flexible rate during the high season. The experts believe that the peak may continue.

Airfare from other cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat and others has also increased.

One of the biggest reasons for the spike in airfare is the unavailability of train tickets. The waiting lists for trains are very high and even Tatkal tickets are not available.

Meanwhile, Northern Railway has decided to run 32 additional postal and express trains to Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Jay Nagar, Kishanganj, Katihar and Barauni (Begusarai) to provide some relief to the passengers. The officials claim to run a total of 211 trains as far as Chatth Puja. The trains depart from Jammu, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Delhi, Bhiwani and Pathankot.
