Vedanta partners with IIT-B to develop green steel technology

Vedanta-Iron and Steel Business recently partnered with: IIT Bombay (IIT-B) on an R&D project to develop cost-effective technology for green steel production using hydrogen, aiming to significantly reduce the carbon footprint in the iron and steel space.



Furthermore, Vedanta-Iron and Steel and IIT�B will work together to exchange knowledge and technology for process innovation and excellence.

The first project launch meeting between Vedanta-Iron and Steel leadership team and IIT-B senior executives was held through a virtual platform chaired by Sujal Shah, CEO, Sesa Goa Iron Ore Business, Vedanta Limited and Prof. Arindam Sarkar, IIT-B together with the project team.

This commitment with IIT-B is an important step in line with Vedanta’s larger vision to achieve carbon neutral operations by 2050 and the country’s larger vision for green hydrogen production and aims to create a benchmark transformation in the steelmaking process.

Vedanta’s Iron and Steel Business has implemented several high impact initiatives to adopt the most sustainable business practices such as systematic recovery from one of the largest open iron ore mines in Goa, 60 MW clean power generation through waste heat recovery plants, state-of-the-art -the-art Environmental management practices and much more over the decades.
