AMC’s Dark Winds is an intriguing crime thriller drama series created by Graham Roland. The series is based on the acclaimed Leaphorn and Chee book series. It revolves around two police officers who try to investigate a vicious crime that has a connection to their personal lives. Fans who have already seen the first season are curious about Dark Winds season 2. So let’s discuss what we know about it.
AMC Confirms Dark Winds Season 2!
The first season of Dark Winds debuted on AMC on June 12, 2022. The season concluded with the finale on July 17, 2022. Speaking of the prospect of the show’s second season, we have happy news for fans of the show. While the first season was on air, AMC decided to renew the show for another season on June 22, 2022. The extension was confirmed by Dan McDermott, president of AMC Studios. He said we can’t wait to share the rest of this thrilling ride of a first season with the fans and follow Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee into a second season.”

However, this is as much as we know about the second Dark Winds season at this point, as no details have been revealed about the season’s production or release date. But if we had to guess, we’d say the second season could premiere around mid-to-late 2023. Nevertheless, this is just our guess and we are waiting for an official announcement.
What to expect from Dark Winds season 2?
The first season of the series was based on elements from the book “The Listening Woman” and “People of Darkness.” We know that the novel series has no fewer than fifteen novels. So we can expect the next season of the show to be an adaptation of another book.

Meanwhile, showrunner Graham Roland has discussed some possibilities for the second season. During one call, he said, “The early conversations we’ve had, I think, narrowed it down to a few, like in two or three.” Then he added: “I definitely have my preference, but I think it will end up being one of those. So we’ve talked about it, but we haven’t really hit the bull’s eye with, ‘Okay, this is it.’
While we don’t know much about the second season yet, we can assume that Dark Winds season 2 will likely continue the story beyond the first season. The history and portrayal of the characters varied widely from the first season. The second season of the program will build on that, while maintaining the connection to Hillerman’s stories as a foundation.
Who will appear in the second season?

In the show’s first season, Zahn McClarnon plays Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon plays Jim Chee, and Jessica Matten plays Bernadette Manuelito. Meanwhile, there’s also Deanna Allison who plays Emma Leaphorn, Elva Guerra as Sally and Jonathan Adams who plays Lester.
In addition, DezBaa stars as Helen Atcitty, Ryan Begay appears as Guy Atcitty and C John Henry Dihel can be seen as BJ Vines. When the second season of Dark Winds returns to AMC, we hope most of the protagonists will reprise their roles. Meanwhile, there might also be some new faces in Dark Winds Season 2.
