Season 9 of Love Island kicks off in January and will feature a new group of singletons on their journey to South Africa to find their perfect love. The show returns for the first time since 2020 and fans are excited to see it return. Tanya Mahenga, a 22-year-old biology student who had to put her education on hold to participate in the program, is one of the participants who will appear. Season 9 of Love Island UK premieres on ITV2 on Monday, January 16 at 9pm ET.

In Season 9 of Love Island, ten contestants go to a luxury villa in South Africa, where the winter season seems like summer due to the climate. Tanya Manhenga, a 22-year-old biomedical sciences student from Liverpool, is one of the program participants. The candidate is so determined to appear on the program and find love that she has chosen to postpone her education.
In an interview with Metro UK, she indicated that she plans to continue her studies after Love Island. Tanya aspires to work in Embryology, which is mainly concerned with IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). She said she wants to help people have children.
She said in her interview:
“That was the only job I really wanted because it gives me the most satisfaction; I want to stand up and say, ‘This helps.’” That’s definitely where I’d go.”
The Love Island contestant has only one semester left and her mother is supportive of her desire to attend the program and then continue with school. Tanya added that her mother was relieved that she was almost done with her studies, as she would not have liked it if she had stopped halfway through. She was afraid that Tanya would be sure of her choice, but when she learned how little of it was left, she supported her and went along.
According to Mahenga’s ITV profile, she falls in love early and wants to be treated like a princess. She also keeps her cards on her chest. Mahenga considers herself impulsive, lively and confident. She went on to say:
“I’m quite nice, but don’t let that fool you. I want to be friends with everyone, but if you want to be sassy, I’m the kind of guy who will return the favor.

Mahenga told ITV that she is looking for a relationship and being with different individuals on Love Island would help her figure out what she is looking for in a partner. Tanya confessed to Bustle that her ideal type is “mid-gorgeous.” If she had to pick someone from past seasons, she would have picked Dami Hope, who has a great sense of style, or Luca, who has a “really mysterious feel to it with tattoos and stuff.” Watch what’s happening on Love Island season 9 on Monday, January 16 at 9pm ET on ITV2 or stream the episode on ITVX.
